Coach of the Season

Each season, parents and players nominate a Recreation or Challenge coach who has gone above and beyond the duty of "coach".

Spring 2024 Volunteer Coaches of the Season

Congratulations to our Spring 2024 Coaches of the Season! We are proud to have you on our team and applaud your continued commitment to the development of our players! The following coaches were nominated by their team for going above and beyond the duty "coach" and selected to receive a gift certificate to Dick's Sporting Goods.

Here's what some of our parents had to say about their Coach of the Season

Following are excerpts from some of the nominations received for coaches for both the Challenge and Recreation programs.

Recreation

1st Grade • Margot Stanley

"Margot is a great leader who loves the game of soccer and sharing it with kids. She still plays soccer herself and invited the girls to come watch her play. She’s so engaging and supportive of the kids and we are lucky to have her! "

7th Grade • Heidi Espinosa

"Coach Heidi is fantastic! She was always prepared, enthusiastic, and positive. She not only taught important skills and strategies but also emphasized and modeled a growth mindset, which she communicated throughout the season at practices, games and in follow-up written messages. Additionally, Coach Heidi was inclusive, welcoming, and good humored, which was mirrored by the rest of the team. While the core of the team had been together for several years, they welcomed our daughter with open arms as a new player this season. After many years of my kids participating in sports, we don't take any of this for granted. On the ride home from last week's practice, my daughter reflected that this season was the most fun she's had playing soccer in a long time. We can't thank Coach Heidi enough for her dedication to the team and for modeling her values of being open-minded and open-hearted."

High School • Peter Anderson

"Coach Anderson goes above and beyond as a leader every season. We’ve been playing on this team for two years now. He focuses on the positive, looking for a lesson from a loss, win, or tie. He works hard to ensure equal playing time. His goal is for the boys to have fun while working hard. He stresses the importance of being a fair player and growth mindset over all else. It has been a privilege for our son to play on his team. He embodies all the reasons who chose Recreation league."

Challenge

U9 • Kaylee Berg

"Coach Kaylee goes above and beyond as a coach for our team. Beyond the countless hours of practice & game time she commits to, she nurtures these kids to be better players and teammates. She truly cares about each one as a mother would and wants the best for them. She openly communicates with parents and addresses concerns professionally and promptly. The boys respect her and enjoy having her as a coach."

U12 • Ben Murphrey

"Coach Ben strikes the perfect balance between fun, learning about the game, and competition. In the environment he's created, the players consistently form meaningful friendships with one another, grow exponentially as individual players and young women, and progress year to year as a team—last year the Blaze only lost one game, and this year we haven't lost any heading into our final game. In addition, this culture spreads to the parents who have also become good friends and really enjoy cheering and providing positive encouragement from the sidelines together, getting together for team gatherings, and traveling together to tournaments across the state. The whole Blaze family is a joy to be around thanks to what Coach Ben has built over the past few years."

HS • Brent Covington

"I am constantly amazed by Coach Brent’s dedication to the team and ability to help the boys develop not only good soccer skills but also good character and sportsmanship. The amount of time time and energy Coach Brent dedicates to be there at practices, games, and tournaments is impressive. The boys have a huge amount of respect for Coach Brent, and I think it’s partly because he leads by example and encouragement, and I’ve never heard him direct any harsh or negative words towards the boys. Coach Brent is very patient and works hard to help the Red Bulls develop their potential. He spends extra time with the team after every practice and game to discuss what worked well and what can be improved. My son joined the Red Bulls in the Fall 2020 season as a pretty unskilled player who lacked confidence, and with Brent’s coaching, I’ve seen my son improve every season, and his confidence and love of the sport keep growing."

Thank you, coaches!
