The NCFC Homestay Program offers high school aged players from around the country a unique opportunity to train and play with the NCFC USL League 1 professional team and NCFC academy team.
These committed athletes have been identified by the NCFC recruiting department as individuals with talent to compete at the next level.
There is no application process; players who are selected for the program will have the opportunity to move to the triangle area, which includes Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill.
Players live with host families that have volunteered to support them for the duration of the Homestay Program.
The success of the homestay program depends on volunteer families, who take in players for the duration of the program.
All host families are expected to provide the following to their players:
Bedroom, desk, dresser, closet, and nearby bathroom
Three nutritious meals per day.
Washer and dryer
WiFi and internet accessibility.
To and from practices and games.
Monthly meetings with NCFC staff.
The host family application process is designed for North Carolina FC academy staff to determine the best fit for both player and family. All prospective host families will meet for an in-house visit. The host family and North Carolina FC academy staff would have the opportunity to get to know each other, ask questions, and discuss topics from logistics to living arrangements.
Upon determining a match between player and host family, North Carolina FC academy staff will facilitate an initial introduction between the player, his immediate family and host family to ensure overall fit and comfort. Following this initial introduction.
All persons 18 and older that list the host family address as their primary residence will undergo a background check. This includes college students who are home for school breaks, as well as household members who live with the host family part-time. This also includes any individual spending significant or unsupervised time with the host player must go through a background check.
The results will be shared with the player’s family. Everyone must submit a separate background check authorization.
The Homestay Program will conduct an initial 30-day assessment to confirm the arrangement between the player and host family are meeting the needs of all parties.
North Carolina FC academy staff will then follow up with a 90-day assessment. At the conclusion of the 90-day assessment, North Carolina FC academy considers the initial assessment period completed. From this point forward, North Carolina FC academy staff will conduct monthly check-ins via in-person visits to the host family and/or phone calls between academy staff, the host family, and host player.
Compensation will be discussed on an individual family basis.
Host families commit to providing a family away from home for the player they host. Between a player’s academic and North Carolina FC academy programs, he will engage in a rigorous and challenging schedule. A host family will be vital to his support and well-being. In doing so, a host family will help an individual reach his full holistic and sporting potential.
